Private, Company L, 7th Cavalry. Killed with Custer's Column at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Originally born as Oscar F. Pardee, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on 29 August 1873, and deserted the Marines on 28 Sept 1873. The next day, he enlisted in the US Army under the alias of John Burke, and was assigned to the 7th US Cavalry. He had brown eyes, brown hair, and was 5' 9" tall. He never married. His mother received his pension of 8 dollars until her death in 1895. Originally, his body was buried on the battle field where he fell, and in June 1877, the bodies were reinterred into the mass grave, now located on top of Last Stand Hill.
