Railroad Crossing Crash Kills Woman
Mrs. Anderson's Husband In Critical Condition
A grade crossing accident Wednesday night claimed the life of a Jamestown woman. Her husband, with whom she was riding when their car was struck by a freight engine in the Town of Orchard Park, was listed today as in "very critical condition" in a Lackawanna hospital.
Dead is Mrs. Oral Jane Anderson, 47, of 253 Jones and Gifford Avenue.
In Our Lady of Victory Hospital is her husband, Harvey Anderson, 52. His injuries were described as a possible fractured skull, possible rib fractures, broken nose, possible fractured lower right leg and scattered abrasions.
Attendants this morning said he was suffering from shock.
The Anderson's light coupe was swept about 75 feet north along the tracks after colliding with the 92-car train at the grade crossing in California Road, a short distance east of Abbott Road in the Town.
The couple was wedged in the wreckage and volunteer fireman worked for a half hour with torches to free them from the car.
Mrs. Anderson died a few minutes after being admitted to Our Lady of Victory Hospital.
Engineer Joseph Clingroth said the train was bound for Buffalo and travelling about 30 miles per hour. The Andersons were reported to be heading for Jamestown. The accident happened about 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Anderson was born on Oct. 28, 1913 in Little Colley, Pa. and had resided in this city for 25 years.
Surviving her, besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Alice Sauner, 387 Fairmount Avenue; three sisters, Mrs. Albert C. Sandell, 112 Cross Street; Mrs. Sten Carlson, 3 Stowe Street; and Mrs. Edward Hopkins, Jr., of Cleveland, O.; and one grandson, Marvin.
Funeral services will be held from Henderson-Lincoln Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Dr. Harold A. McCurdy will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Note: There are discrepancies between her death records and census records, especially her date and place of birth.
