Dorothy Ann Brown was born Jan. 21, 1930 to Margaret (Harmsen) and Philip Burke at Hull, Iowa. The family moved to South Dakota in the spring of 1930 and lived in Lyman County the rest of their lives.
Dorothy attended Presho Public School for 12 years graduating from Presho High School in 1948. She attended Yankton College for two years receiving her two-year teaching certificate.
After graduating, Dorothy taught school in Winner for one year. Later she taught in the Burke schools for three years.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Rex C. Brown Jan. 21, 1951 and they were happily married for 54 years before Rex passed away April 17, 2005. Four children were welcomed into this union, Cheryl, Lori, Clayton and Barry.
Dorothy was a member of the Presho United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbor of America and Silver Leaf Chapter of Order of Eastern Star since March 1948.
During her lifetime, she was a life guard at the Presho swimming pool, a nurse aid at St. Mary's Hospital, church secretary for 20 years and bookkeeper at Presho Oil for over 10 years.
She leaves children, Cheryl McKiernan and husband, Jim, of Sioux Falls; Lori Pearson and husband, Brian, of Forestburg, Clay Brown and wife, Carrie of Gilbert, Ariz., and Barry Brown, of Presho; grandchildren, Kenneth Christensen and wife, Cassandra, Amanda Brenner and husband, Josh, Stuart Pearson, Chase and Cailyn Brown, Austin, Adam and Courtney Brown and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Phyllis; husband, Rex and grandson, David Christensen.
Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre has been placed in care of the arrangements.
