Helen was born October 20, 1927, in Rapid City to John and Elizabeth (Zambo) Burke.
She grew up in Rapid City and attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Rapid City High School. Helen had three brothers and one sister.
Helen married Bruce Babcock in Rapid City on May 13, 1946. They had three children and lived in Rapid City, Wall, and moved to Hill City in 1952. They lived there until moving to Rapid City in 1993. Helen and Bruce spent several winters in Yuma, AZ.
While living in Hill City, she was a very active member of the St. Rose of Lima Altar Society, grew a very beautiful vegetable garden, and enjoyed keeping her house and yard in great order. She always really enjoyed being outdoors, and she also was an excellent cook and baker.
Helen and Bruce had 50 years together, and were very close, doing about everything together.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Joe) Kramer, Kimberling City, MO, Paula (Gary) Crawford, Yuma, AZ; one son, Joe Babcock, Lake Andes, SD; sister, Mary Welch, Rapid City; brother, Ed Burke, Rapid City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Babcock; and two brothers, Robert and John Burke.
A memorial has been established to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at St. Therese Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Bill Zandri officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date and she will rest in peace with husband at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
