Katherine B. Brennan, born July 3, 1919, the third daughter of Janie and Rufus Burnet in Rocky Springs, Mississippi, died Monday, May 4, 2015. When she was eight, she and her older sister Maurine resided with their aging grandparents, the J.J. Sullivan of Coahoma County near Clarksdale.
At sixteen, she moved to Memphis to be with her mother, a nurse at Gartley-Ramsay Hospital, and to finish her schooling. Later she was a loyal employee of the telephone company, several farm implement businesses, and retired from a hoist and crane company.
After the war she married John Joseph Brennan and they made their home in Frayser of Memphis. After his death in 1982, her widowed sister Maurine came to live with her and both were active in Lindenwood Christian Church. Katherine’s strong convictions led her to work with many who suffered with alcohol addiction.
She is survived by a younger sister Ollie Thompson of Nashville, TN; two nieces and five nephews.
For the last seven years, she has been under the able care of Golden LivingCenter in Southaven, MS and lovingly tended by John’s niece Jeanette (Mrs. John Brennan Getz) and her cousin Ethel (Mrs. George McCaughan).
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9th at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Avenue Extended, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family request that memorials be sent to Lindenwood Christian Church or the local AA Chapter.
