BURNETT, Howard R. -- entered into his rest March 11, 2003. Devoted husband of 57 years to his wife Marjorie, and loving father to son Brad of Campbell, California and daughter Susan Burnett Luten and her husband Tom of Berkeley, California.

Howard earned a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Illinois College of Engineering in 1952.

He was vice president of Lockheed's Missile Systems Division responsible for the development of the Polaris, Poseidon, and Trident missile systems.

Aviation was his first love, inspiring his service as a Navy fighter pilot in World War II. Howard was an accomplished fresh and salt-water angler and an avid golfer.

In his retirement he mentored local elementary school students in mathematics.

Funeral services will be private. Donations to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation will be appreciated.
