Bonnie Dunlavey Burnett, of Corvallis, OR, passed away August 3 at her home at 88 years old. She was born June 20, 1922 in Tacoma, Washington to her parents Terrence Dunlavey and Grace Sanford Dunlavey. The family settled in San Jose, where she and her six siblings were raised in a lively household. She graduated from San Jose High School and worked for Pacific Bell. She met the love of her life, Eugene "Bernie" Burnett of Lytton, Iowa on a blind date in 1943. They eloped to Carson City, Nevada two weeks later and were married and in love until his death in 1996. After World War II, they settled back in California, eventually in San Jose. Their only child, daughter Bonnie Jr., was born in 1956. Bonnie also worked for Maida and Associates and was a noted Avon lady. She was very active during her last years in San Jose with TOPS, becoming queen in 2003. Her most heartfelt membership was in Delta Omega, her high school sorority, and with those lifelong friends. She moved to Oregon to be near family in 2006. Her two grandsons were the light of her life. She was an avid reader, quilter and collector. She loved people and had a keen curiosity in life. She is preceded in death by her husband, and siblings Geraldine Dunlavey Waller, Genevieve Dunlavey Huston, Jimmy Dunlavey, Jack Dunlavey, Richard Dunlavey, and Paddy Dunlavey McLaughlin. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Burnett-Smith and son-in-law Mark Smith of Corvallis; grandson Joshua Smith and wife Sara Smith of Eugene, Oregon and grandson Trevor Smith of Agoura Hills, California. She is also survived by nephews Mike Huston, Tim Waller, Mark Huston and nieces Lani Waller Pierce and Jeanne McLaughlin Peterson.
