Aged Brownton Citizen Is Dead – Mrs. Daniel Benjamin, Age 88, Passed to Her Reward Last Friday
Brownton, Minn. – Died at the home of her son-in-law, R. V. Alexander near this village, March 22, 1907. Mrs. Daniel Benjamin, aged 88 years 5 months and 25 days. The subject of this sketch Clarissa C. Burns was born in Halifax, Vermont, Sept 27th, 1818, the fifth child in a family of thirteen children. In early childhood she joined the Baptist church and maintained her church relationship during her long life. January 19th, 1839, she was joined in marriage with her late husband, Daniel Benjami, and in the year 1842 the family removed to Greenbush, Sheboyan County, Wisconsin, remaining there until 1866, when they removed to New Auburn, Sibley county, and later to Glencoe, McLeod County, and thence to Lake Crystal, Minnesota, Sept 21, 1902, while on a visit in Brownton, her husband died, and deceased has since resided with her daughter Mrs. R. V. Alexander. Deceased was the mother of five children, three sons and two daughters. Of the three sons, the two younger died at the ages of 10 and 18 years, respectively, and the eldest, while in the service of the United States, in the Civil War in Co. “B” 8th Regt. Wis., Vol. Inf. Of which his father was also a member. Mrs. Benjamin is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Robert V. Alexander, of Brownton and Mrs. Geo. Holmes, of Brunswick, Minn., six grand children, one great grandchild and one sister, wife of Rev. France of Providence, R. I., besides many friends who cherish her memory and look forward with joyful anticipation to the time of the family reunion above. Funeral services conducted by Rev. E. P. Christ of the M. E. church were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. V. Alexander, Monday afternoon, March 25th, and the remains laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery, by the side of her late husband who in 1902 had preceded her to the grave.
