Laura M. Adkins, born June 27, 1889, departed this life Feb. 1, 1936, age 46 years, seven months and six days. About 24 years ago she was converted and joined the Free Will Baptist church, and was baptized. She lived a faithful and religious life for a number of years. During all this time she continued to live and advise her children to do right. A few months before her demise she made her return to God. She shouted and praised God as death neared, entreating her children and all who came to see her to prepare to meet her in Heaven. Sleep on, mother, until the Resurrection, where we expect to meet you again in a better Home Above. She leaves to mourn their loss, a father, Willie Burns of St. Albans; two brothers, Ivan Burns, of Saint Albans; Brud Burns, of Bowles, and three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Phelps, of Hurricane; Mrs. Bessie Casdorphe, of St. Albans, and Mrs. Ada Wilmer of Huntington; four half brothers, and three half sisters; her husband, James R. Adkins, and six boys, Howard, Ray, Esto, Arley, Arvello and Erycle, three daughters, Oma, Clella and Odrey; a granddaughter, little Idar Adkins, together with a great number of more distant relatives.
Funeral services were conducted by Elders J.S. Stanley and R.L. Stanley Monday at 10 O'clock a.m. at the residence in the presence of more than three hundred people, and laid to rest in the family cemetery, near their home.
Mother
Dear Mother from us is gone,
In death lies cold and still.
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
Oh Mother how we loved you.
