Obituary: "Funeral Friday for Mrs. Peter Burtness. Mrs. Peter (Anna M.) Burtness, 63, a resident of Field Township, died early Tuesday morning at the Virginia Municipal Hospital following a lengthy illness. She had been hospitalized since March 13. Born Anna M. Swenson, March 29 [30], 1890, she was married to Peter Burtness, September 30, 1915 at Cook [Duluth]. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church at Cook and of the Ladies' Aid of that church. Surviving are her husband, Peter; two sons, Eldred of Cook and Howard of Hartford, Conn.; two daughters, Mrs. Glen Swanson (Marianne) of Braham, Minn., and Mrs. Laurence Rieder of Delano, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. David Kjell of Solon Springs, Wis., and Mrs. R.C. Stephenson of Duluth; three brothers, Alvin Swenson and Charles Swenson of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., and Edward of Orofino, Idaho; 8 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook with the Rev. Joel Olberg officiating. Pallbearers will be Walter Enzmann, Paul Anthony, James Gordon, Carl Scott, G.A. Gustafson, Jr., and Julius Fadum. Burial will be in the family plot of the Cook cemetery. Memorials will be accepted in lieu of flowers. The body will lie in state at the Cron-Nelson-Leding Funeral Home in Virginia from Thursday afternoon until 11 o'clock Friday morning, when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the hour of service." (Cook News-Herald, 14 May 1953, page 1).
