Mrs. Susan Bonney, an old resident whose death was chronicled in last weeks issue was born in England in 1832, and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Burton Sr came to this country about the year 1830 and settled in what was known as the Vermont Settlement near Rensselaer Falls, afterward removing to the Kendrew neighborhood where she has resided since she was 11 years of age. In 1852 she was united in marriage with Reuben Bonney. As a result of this union seven children were born. Her life was one acquainted with sorrow and hardship. Her husband died twenty-four years ago, and within a few succeeding years she was called to lay away four sons who had attained the years of manhood with that lingering disease consumption. Twelve years ago she had an operation for Gall stones from which she never recovered and which caused her much suffering during her declining years. She was a woman of strong character, possessed a cheerful disposition, a find sense of humor and a firm faith in God. She was converted when 18 years of age and afterward joined the Kendrew M. E. Church of which she was a member at the time of her death. She took an active interest in her friends and the affairs of the neighborhood and only a few weeks before her death went to Lewisburg to visit a grandson who was bidding farewell to earth and its flowers. She is survived by three children: Leonard and Hattie of Lewisburg and George with whom she made her home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Charles Woodcock and Mrs. Barton Carver of Rensselaer Falls, and a brother Leonard Burton of Minnesota besides a large circle of friends who mourn her loss.
