On Friday, September 3, 1976, Lana married Terry Bates in Stateline, Douglas County, NV; they renewed their vows in 1991. She had a previous marriage in San Francisco, CA, to Everett McCormick in February 1969 which ended in divorce in 1972; and to Timothy Myers in Merced in April 1973 which also ended in divorce.
Lana met Terry through a neighbor (CMSgt Richard Stark) who worked for Terry. At the wedding, Stark was Terry's best man, and his wife Barbara was Lana's bridesmaid.
Lana lived in California for most of her life. She graduated from Livingston (CA) HS in 1965.
Lana graduated from the California Dental Nurses College in San Francisco, CA, and then worked as a dental hygienist there from 1965 to 1969.
Lana worked for Pacific Bell and retired in 2002 after 32 years of service with that company. She then worked as a Secretary II in the Merced County Office of Education, Instructional Services and Public Affairs until ill health forced her retirement in December 2010.
Lana earned an AA degree from Merced College in 1992.
Lana's hobbies included camping, sudoku, and cooking. Lana and Terry also owned a fifth-wheel camping trailer and a boat for vacation getaways.
Lana and Terry had 1 son: Chris.
Lana also had a daughter Carrie with Ronald Welch and a son Patrick with Everett McCormick. Carrie and Patrick were raised by Lana and Terry.
Lana was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced.
Following a nine-month illness, Lana, 64, died of cancer on Monday, March 14, 2011, at her home in Merced. After an 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Atwater, CA, said by Father Tom Timmings on March 17, she was buried in the Batesville Section of St. Mary's Cemetery, Oskaloosa, IA, on March 19, Father Tom Spiegel officiating.
