Vietnam veteran, distinguished political commentator for WPFW-FM Pacifica Radio, and front line political and civil rights activist, passed peacefully to eternal life on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Mr. Byrd of Washington, DC was born and reared in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Left to cherish his memories include his son Myron Derrick Birdsong (Betty), Hyattsville, MD; daughter, Monica Birdsong, Nashville TN; three grandchildren, Derrick Jerron Birdsong (Telayua), Greenbelt, MD, Myron Jeray Birdsong, Brooklyn, NY and Diamond Winston, Richmond VA; two great-grandchildren, Naomi and Logan Birdsong; sister, Shirley Byrd Scott (William); brother, Glen Byrd (Nancy); stepmother, Sallie Garner Byrd, all of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 5301 North Capitol Street, N.E., Washington, DC 20011. The burial will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at later date. A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Advent Funeral and Cremation Services, 9013 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD 20706.
