Erma “Chucky” Byrd Adkins, age 69, of Martinsville went to receive her Angel Wings in Heaven on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

Chucky was born on Feb. 20, 1946 to the late Bennie and Edith Wilkes Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by four brothers, O.B., Pete, Arthur, and Jimmy Byrd; and one sister Naydene B. Matherly.

Chucky was retired from Tultex with 28 years of service. She was a life-time caregiver for family, friends and neighbors; out of the goodness of her heart. She was loved by all, and had a passion for people that was expressed through her generosity and love. Chucky will be greatly missed by so many friends and family. She battled Lymphoma Cancer for 4 years, and it lightens our hearts of burden to know she is in Heaven with Jesus.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 52 years, Arnold A. Adkins, Sr. of the home; three sons, Arnold A. Adkins, Jr. (Duna) and wife Anne, L. Nathan Adkins, both of Martinsville, and Keith A. Adkins and wife Sally of Chatham; four brothers, Johnny, Shayford, and Clayton Byrd, all of Martinsville, and Junny Byrd of Carlsbad, Calif.; two sisters, Aleane B. Anderson of Wirtz, Va., and Kay B. Gillispie of Martinsville; four grandsons, Justin, Zeb, Adam, and Ridge; three great-grandchildren, Presley, Harper, and Mason; nieces, nephews and special friends.

The funeral service will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Susan Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
