Richard bought "The Paint Store" in Elko, Nv., in 1984. He married Joan K Wassom 15 Apr 1986, and they owned and operated the store, with the help of Dick's brother, Paul, for 10 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the Jordan River Temple in 1991. He was an active member of the LDS Church and was a devoted Home Teacher, helping those he visited when needed.
They traveled to many beautiful places in the world and were always amazed at the beauty they saw. The most exciting trip was in 1998 when they toured the British Isles and visited the Parish Churches of their ancestors.
