She was born on October 27, 1920 in Port Arthur, Texas to Ernest Henry and Estelle Calhoun.
Ernestine was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of The United Methodist Temple. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur Business College. Ernestine worked at Gulf Port Shipbuilding and then went to work at First National Bank of Port Arthur where she retired as Assistant Vice President after 41 years.
Ernestine is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Applegate, Jr., two sisters, three brothers, and one nephew.
She is survived by her twin sister, Frances C. Cooper, three nieces, Marilyn Evans, Carolyn Black, and Arlene Massey, three great nieces, two great great nieces, five nephews and step-daughters, Priscilla LeBlanc and Jeanette Romero.
Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Nederland, Texas.
