MAURICE CANNON Maurice Kent Cannon, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 1, 2017.

He was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, and was an 18-year resident of Nevada.

He grew up in Worland, Wyoming, and was an Eagle Scout.

He graduated with his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University.

He began his career at The National Bureau of Standards, worked at General Electric for 20 years and completed his professional career at the Navy defense contractor NAVALEX.

He served three missions for the LDS church, Texas-Louisiana (1955-56), Nauvoo Temple (2003-04) and Palmyra Temple (2006).

He served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop of the Portsmouth, Virginia Ward from 1968-75 and again as Bishop of the Portsmouth Virginia II Ward from 1982-1986.

Upon moving to Las Vegas in 1999, he worked as a volunteer at the Las Vegas LDS temple for 14 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, of nearly 55 years, Donna Johns Cannon; his parents, Maurice and Ora Elizabeth (Wallwork) Cannon; his brother, Terry; and his grandson, Joshua.

He is survived by his older sister, Marlene (Dave) Nichols; his sister-in law, Joan Cannon; and his brothers, Burke (Barbara) Cannon, Rondin Cannon, Kevin (Devin) Cannon and Val (Susan) Cannon; his five children, Max K. (Kathy) Cannon, Peggy (Don) Christiansen, Bruce (Doreen) Cannon, Celia (Robert) Weekes and Melanie Cannon; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren, with three more great-grandchildren expected soon.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 877 N. Temple View Drive.

A viewing will precede the services at 9:30 a.m.

Burial will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery Saturday, Aug. 5, following a viewing at 10 a.m. and brief devotional service at 11 a.m. at Lindquist Mortuary in North Ogden, Utah.
