Antonio Canova of North Attleboro, where he has lived since 2003,died at his home on Thursday, January 6, 2011. He was 89.

Born in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Negro) Canova. Mr. Canova worked as a dairy farmer, producing fresh Italian cheeses. During WWII he had been captured by the American forces in Monte Casino during the liberation of Italy, and consequently became a courier, relaying information to the front lines. He loved being in the United States, and wanted to be buried on American soil. He was also very proud of his grand and great-grandchildren.

Husband of the late Corinna (Barollo) Canova, he was the father of Luciano Canova of North Attleboro. In addition to his son, he is survived by his grandchildren, Antony Canova of North Attleboro, Christina Canova of Sandwich, and Don Canova of Attleboro. Also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Canova are under the care of the R. J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St. Wrentham, and are private.
