Canova, Bert, 90 years old, went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2010. Bert was born May 24, 1919 in Campville, FL to Nolan and Amy Canova. His family moved to Auburndale and then to Ocala where he graduated high school. Bert attended the University of Florida. His military career included being a Capt. in the USMC as a flight instructor at Pensacola, Florida during WWII and he also flew a B-25 in the Philippines. Major Bert Canova returned to civilian life and lived in Florida until his death. He is preceded in death by first wife, Doris, and second wife, Ellyne, and brothers, Nolan and Bruce. Survivors include sons Bert N. (Cindy) of Grove OK.; Donald (Beverly) of Marietta, GA.; daughter Joyce (Doug) Seidler of Olympia, WA; grandchildren: Julie, Robert N, Bert C. (Beau), & Lori, Robert D. & Christi, Brian, Jean, Jay, Ryan, Eric, Jennifer & Amie and numerous great-grandchildren. Bert and his two brothers, Bruce & Nolan, were gifted musicians. Bert excelled playing the tenor saxophone and clarinet. He started playing with dance bands in central Florida about 1937 and was a member of the University of Florida Marching Gators. He established and played with "The Blue Notes" for over 50 years in central Florida. In addition, Bert worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad and was station manager for the T & G Railroad in Clermont until 1963. He retired from the Drummond Press in Jacksonville in 1985, at which time he returned to central Florida and lived in Tavares and Yalaha, Florida.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 27, at the Yalaha Community Church followed by a celebration of life from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Springs Clubhouse, Yalaha, FL.

A private interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers Bert wishes for you to donate to your favorite charity or Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
