CANOVA MARY MARGARET entered peacefully into rest in Hayward on September 25, 2001. She was 92. Born in Louisiana on February 18, 1909, Mary was the oldest of 13 children born to Peter and Catherine Maggio. She was a 55 year resident of Oakland and had worked for the pencil factory on 62nd Ave. Mary was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed. Mary is survived by her beloved children, Mary & Jack Castro of San Lorenzo and Catherine Poole of Hayward; brothers and sisters, Tony Maggio, Lena Stevens, Vince Maggio and Josephine Battaglia, all of Thibodaux, LA; grandchildren, Tracy J. & Debbie Castro and Andre Poole; great granddaughter, Cassandra Marie Castro; many nieces, nephews, and loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Canova in 1992. Visitation for Mary will be 5 PM to 8 PM at Grissom's San Lorenzo Chapel/Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. The vigil service begins at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM on Friday at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, 21250 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward.
