Della Robertson Vaughn Carpenter, 89, a lifetime resident of Athens, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
She was our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was a daughter of the late Luther and Bertie Rogers Vaughn. She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Watkins; two brothers, William Vaughn and Edward Vaughn; and one great-grandson, Justin Jenkins. She was a longtime and the oldest member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Susie Robertson of Harrison, and David and Jeanette Robertson of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and William Womac of Alpharetta, Ga.; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Junior Brown of Decatur, J.C. and Edna Vaughn of Athens, Roy and Laurel Vaughn of Kingston, Mass., and Mary Vaughn and Edna Vaughn, both of Athens; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Bertha and John Thompson of Chattanooga, and Louise and Carl McKinney, Catherine Wilson and Johnny Watkins, all of Athens; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Harrod and the Rev. Jimmy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Idlewild Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Russell Robertson, Robert Womac, Michael Womac, Bryan Robertson, Brandon Robertson and Zack Robertson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
