Elizabeth Olsen Carpenter

Elizabeth Olsen Carpenter, 74, of Athens, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at NHC Health Care of Athens.

A native of Battle Creek, Mich., a former resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a resident of McMinn County since 1980, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Evan Olsen Sr. and Margarite Guskey Olsen, and was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Carpenter; and one brother, Clifford Evan Olsen Jr. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include one son, Terry Gene Carpenter of Houston, Texas; one foster brother, David Mitchell of Copperas Cove, Texas; one sister-in-law, Janice Olsen of Athens; special friends, Gladys Wilson and Floy; her stepmother-in-law, Della Carpenter of Houston, Texas; two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were 1 p.m. Sunday at Sullins Cemetery.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
