She was born October 21, 1916, the daughter of Eva and Baxter C. Carr. Mrs. Anderson graduated from Maury High School in 1934 and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary (now ODU). In 1940 she married Phillip R. Anderson.

In 1945 she joined First Lutheran Church where she was an active member for many years. She served as a teacher and superintendent of the children's Sunday school and was active in the Lutheran Church Women serving as president in 1984.

She was the head of the Christian Service Committee and an active and founding member of the Leisure Age group. She also served the community as a longtime member of the Norfolk Jr. Woman's Club and was chosen Outstanding Jr. for 1951. She was a member of King's Daughters Comforting Circle and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was involved in the activities of her children and the PTA for many years. Her other interests included her bridge clubs, knitting and cooking for family and church. She was devoted to her family and was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her four children, Carolyn Fitzgerald and her husband Robert of Richmond, VA, Nancy Flatt and her husband David of Green Valley, AZ, Phyllis Hund and her husband Tim of Norfolk, VA, and Phillip Anderson, Jr. and his wife Karen of Midlothian, VA. She had ten grandchildren, Patrick Fitzgerald, Laura Walton and her husband, Todd, Brian Flatt, Emily Hechter and her husband, Max, Andrew Hund and his wife Katie, Jonathan Hund and his wife Allison, Elizabeth Katz and her husband, Joel, Tyler Anderson and his wife Katie, Colin Anderson, Marit Anderson. Mrs. Anderson had four great grandchildren, Ella and Owen Walton, Andrew Hund II and Catarina Hechter. And she is survived by her brother, Baxter C. Carr, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Williamsburg, VA.
