Mrs. Ann Nancy Carter, who was instrumental in obtaining a sponsor for the Lawrence Welk's first television contract, died Tuesday in a hospital.
At her urging her husband, Betram M. Carter, a retired executive of the Dodge Division of Chrysler Corp., brought Welk to the attention of Dodge officials, who signed the band leader to his first TV contract in 1952.
Mrs. Carter, who lived at 8975 Champagne Blvd. in Lawrence Welk's Country Club Village north of Escondido, was born in New York City and came her 14 years ago from Glendale.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ann Newton of ElCajon; a sister, Mrs Estelle Scotto of Glendale; a brother, Edwin Jackson of Chester, PA., and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in McLeod Mortuary, followed by private burial in Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
