CARTER, ALFRED ERNEST. Private. No 23692. 8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Born Meltham. Son of Mr William Carter (clerk to the Meltham Urban District Council) and Eliza Carter. Employed as a cashier at the Market Place branch of the London, City and Midland Bank Limited. Attended Meltham Parish Church. Killed in action at the Battle of Arras, 3.5.1917, aged 34. Has no known grave.

Commemorated on the ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
