Irene daughter of Benjamin Franklin Kizer, Sr. and Nora Bethel Epps. Married Joseph Bernice Carter, son of Robert Taylor Carter and Maggie Brown 28 November 1928, Sumner Co., TN. Two daughters born to this union Vivian and Nina.

Her mother died at the birth of Irene. Irene was raised by Benjamin Franklin Kizer, Sr. brother Orville Wilson Kizer and Margaret Patton.
