Lakeland: Tracy L. Carter Bassford, on February 23, 1964, a tiny 5lb 141/2 ounce baby decided to make her first and early appearance into a world that she very soon learned to love and believed with all of her little heart that everyone in this great big world loved her too.

Very soon the squeaky little voice turned to laughter and song and Tracy spent most of her young life singing.

She had many setbacks, her most severe being a seizure at the age of 19, which robbed her of most of her motor skills and memory.

Tracy had to fight and work hard to regain what she had lost. She graduated from Kathleen High School and thus began her music career. At the age of 21, she cut her first album, “The Potter’s Wheel”. She chose this title as it very much depicted her life. The album was well received and was played at many radio stations in the south.

She also made many television appearances and was awarded Best Florida Gospel Music Soloist for two straight years.

She later married and had a son. On March 26, 2010, Tracy was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Tracy attacked the cancer with the same defiance and determination as she had her previous rivals.

She had many fans during her music career, her father being her greatest passed away in October 2013. Tracy sings a song entitle, “The only Real Peace” it goes on to say that the only real peace I have Dear Lord is in you and that in your dreams one can soar and tackle their frustrations but in the end the only real peace one can have is in Christ Jesus. Tracy believed this with all her heart and somehow wanted her struggles and triumphs shared with others.

On Saturday, February 13th, Tracy laid down her tired little body and went to a place that she could finally be at real peace and free of pain. Did she loose the battle? I don’t think so. I believe that Tracy is in heaven, waving the battle of Victory. What about our dreams? Are they worth fighting for?

Tracy is preceded in death by her father W. Gene Carter Jr., grandparents Myrtle and Freeman Smith, Vera and Lankford Carter Sr., Aunt Hilda Monroe.

She is survived by her mother Opal S. Carter, sister Regina Carter, son Dustyn Bassford, his father Brent Bassford. Her aunts and uncles Geneva and Eddie Wooten, Dr. Allen and Betty Sue Carter, Betty and Jimmy Dees, NJ and Rosa Carter, Bill and Juanita Ruthven and many cousins.

A funeral service for Tracy will be held on Thursday February 18, 2016 at 6PM with a viewing one hour prior at Heath Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at 10:00 am at Oak Hill Burial Park.
