Died Monday evening, April 27, 1908, at the family residence, four and one-half miles east of Springfield, of pneumonia, Elisha Q. Cartwright, aged 63 years.

Deceased was born in the state of Ohio, in 1846, but has resided in Illinois for the greater portion of his life. He served through the civil war as a member of the Fifty-Third Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was a member of Stephenson Post No. 30, G.A.R.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Cartwright; three sons, Russel Cartwright, residing at home; Lester (also reported as Oakley) Cartwright of this city, and Charles Cartwright of the Isthmus of Panama; and two daughters, Miss Fern Cartwright, residing at home, and Miss Vina Cartwright (also reported as Mrs. F. M. Graham) of this city.

The funeral of Ellis I. Cartwright will be held at 9:30 o'clock this morning at the residence, four and one-half miles east of this city on the Clear Lake road. Chaplain Stevenson of Stephenson Post No. 30, G. A. R., will officiate, and the interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. The members of Stephenson Post will attend in a body.

The decedent was a veteran of the Civil war, having served as a member of the Fifty-third Ohio Volunteer infantry. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Cartwright; three sons, Charles of Panama and Oakley and Russel residing at home; two daughters, Mrs. F. M. Graham of this city, and Fern Cartwright, residing at home, and five grandchildren.

Elisha Q. Cartwright, Pvt. of Capt. Josh E. Bailey's Co. F, 53rd Reg. OVI enrolled 22 February 1864 to serve 3 years or during the war. Discharged 11 August 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas, by reason of expiration of service. Born in Pike Co., Ohio, 18 years of age, 5'5" high, dark complexion, black eyes, brown hair, occupation when enrolled-farmer.
