Mrs. Nettie Bowers, 58, 102 W. Dominick St., police matron for 10 years, died last evening in a Rome hosptial after an illness of several months.
Born in Rome June 12, 1888, she was the daughter of James and Nora Byam Cary. She was married to Arthur Bowers, a former Oneida County deputy sheriff, who died 21 years ago.
She became Rome's matron of police in 1933, resigning that position on January 1, 1943. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Fred Madison, Clinton, one sister, Lila Griffin, Rome, a brother, Fay Cary, Rome, one grandson, Paul Madison, Clinton and several nieces and nephews.
