Carmela Casamento (nee Giardina Papa)

Age 82, passed away on January 15, 2011.

She was born in Patti, Sicily. She called Jersey City home for the better part of 40 years, single-handedly raising her three children, before relocating to Felton, DE. She worked as a seamstress but will be remembered for being much more than that. Carmela was an extremely creative and intelligent woman. Her personality shined in her lovingly prepared dishes, her meticulously maintained home, and carefully arranged refrigerator magents. She had a huge heart and lived for her children and grandchildren. Nonna also told some great stories too, most of which were recanted sitting in the yard with friends. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed.

She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore. She leaves behind three children: Salvatore Casamento and his wife Karen of Fair Lawn, NJ, Anna Arrigo and her husband Vincent of Ridgefield Park, NJ, and Joseph (Pippo) Casamento and his wife Darlene of Felton, DE. Carmela also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Joseph Arrigo and his wife Jill of Little Ferry, NJ, Keri Williams and her husband Patrick of Bayville, NJ, Victoria Gutierrez and her husband Joseph of Lankoka Harbor, NJ, Salvatore Arrigo of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Amanda Casamento of Fair Lawn, NJ, Matthew Casamento of Lodi, NJ and Jennifer Casamento of Felton, DE. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Ava, Colin, Brady, Hunter, Parker and Riley.

The funeral service will be conducted at VORHEES-INGWERSEN FUNERAL HOME, 59 Main St. Ridgefield Park on Thursday at 10 am. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
