Dale was born to Charlotte (Storts) and Joseph Case on January 10, 1924, in Yankton, SD, and graduated from Huron High School in 1943. While serving in the U.S. Navy (1943-1946), Dale attended Idaho State in Pocatello, ID. There he sustained a football injury which ended his distinguished high school and college career on the field. Dale served in the Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the U.S.S. Ajax (Gunner's Mate 3rd Class). On June 12, 1947, he married Lorraine Abler of Huron. Dale was the manager of Murphy Finance Company from 1947 to 1973, when he purchased Case Sanitation Service, a business he managed until his retirement.
Dale was perhaps one of the finest athletes of his day in South Dakota and he was a member of the Huron Tiger Hall of Fame in recognition of his prowess in basketball, football, track and boxing. His love of sports continued throughout his life as a referee, accomplished golfer and champion pool player. Dale was a member of the Watertown Lion's Club and the American Legion for many years, and was a Past Commander of VFW Post 750.
Joyful that their father has joined his beloved wife Lorraine and daughter Karen in Heaven are his surviving children: Marsha (Bob) Klein, Brookings; Al Case, Lino Lakes, MN; Steve Case, Dru (Shelly) Seward, Dave (Jean) Case, Lynn (Doug) Sharp, all of Watertown; and Chuck (Jennifer) Case, of Tea. Dale was the beloved grandfather of 16 grandchildren: Kristin Sholton, Matthew Kendall, Katie Wackel, Erika Klein, Steve and Keryn Seward, Sara Oleson, Emily Welch, Megan Case, Rachel Case, Micalann Pepe, Nick, Max and Taylor Sharp, Dakota Case and Taylor Chaney; and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Donna (Eugene) Case of Sioux City, IA, and many nieces and nephews. Grateful for having shared Dale's last years are his very special friend, Mavis Thyen, and her family.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his daughter Karen Patrice, his parents, and eight siblings.
