John H. Catherwood, residing in Springfield, died yesterday morning at Chatham, from injuries received in an accident which occurred Saturday in Chatham. He was at work upon an elevator which is being built there, when the scaffolding upon which he was standing broke and he fell to the ground. Catherwood was seriously injured but it was believed that he would recover. However, he gradually grew weaker until his death occurred. The remains arrived in this city on a Chicago & Alton train last evening and were taken to the family residence where the funeral will be held.
The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Catherwood; and eight children, Mary, Maggie, Martha, John, George, Edward, and Herbert Catherwood. He was 47 years old and had been an employe of the gas company for twenty-three years. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and Royal Circle.
