Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Catherwood, 81, of Springfield, died yesterday at Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for the last five weeks. Born Dec. 2, 1861, six miles west of Springfield, she was the daughter of James and Mary Frances (Laswell) Tomlinson. She married John Hugh Catherwood Jan. 30, 1882. They were the parents of 14 children, six of whom survive.

She was a member of the West Side Christian church and Royal Neighbors of America.

Surviving are six children: Mrs. E. A. Xander, Mrs. Maggie Thoman, Miss Martha E. Catherwood, Herbert J. Catherwood, all of city; George B. of Philadelphia, Pa., and Thomas J. of Joliet, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
