BURCH, Idola Cecil Age 83, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton. Idola was born in Owsley County, Kentucky, the youngest of eleven children of John and Lucinda Cecil. She came to Hamilton at age 17 to work in the Champion paper mills.

After her marriage to Emery "Jack" Burch, he served in the U.S. Navy Pacific fleet during World War II while she worked as a civilian supporting the naval base at Port Hueneme. After the war, the couple returned to Kentucky, started a family, and then came back to Hamilton where Jack took a job at Fisher Body and Idola set about raising their growing family while working a series of part-time jobs. Determining to make a career in real estate, Idola took college business courses at night and passed the state exam. She worked until retirement for several real estate agencies, making a strong reputation and many friends. Idola made many sacrifices to make sure her children had musical instruments, Boy Scout gear, trips to unfamiliar places, or anything else she saw as promoting learning and growth.

She was a helper at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, collected for the American Heart Association, and was a generous donor to many causes from her limited means. For herself, Idola sang with the Champion Chorus, danced with the Hamilton Senior Steppers, traveled with Hamilton Senior Citizens, learned the arts of oil painting and gardening, and decorated her neighborhood by beautifying her home and grounds. Her children remember her most of all as a tough survivor, overcoming many challenges and giving her children and grandchildren a high example to meet.

Idola is survived by her sons Kenneth Burch of San Francisco, California, Philip Burch of Middletown, David Burch and wife Joy Rose of Hamilton, Stephen Burch and wife Mary Jo of Marion, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, 10AM-12PM at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 Park Avenue, Hamilton.

A funeral service at the church will immediately follow the visitation at 12PM, with the Rev. John Eshelman officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Arrangements completed with Kowalk Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio.
