CESSNA - In Reno, October 6, 1922, Julia Cessna, beloved sister of John R. Cessna of Reno. A native of Florida; aged 51 years.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral services at the chapel of the Ross-Burke company Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. E.T. Brown officiating. Remains will be accompanied to Oakland Sunday evening for cremation.

Julia Cessna was born the middle child and only daughter of William Kerr Cessna and the former Miss Julia Bond. Her father served for the Union during the civil war for the Ohio 12th Infantry, where he was promoted to Sergeant. Julia and her brother's John and William were born in Gainsville, Alachua, Florida. Her father was appointed a postmaster while the family was living in Florida and her mother also worked as a clerk in the Post Office.

By 1892, the family had left Florida and relocated to Itheca, Thompkins, New York. Julia was a highly intelligent woman, and could be considered a pioneer among women, as she attended Cornell University in 1894 and studied Architecture. However, it appears that she was never able to use her education for employment.

Julia was a member of D.A.R. national number: 102548, for her 2nd Great Grandfather Major John Cessna FAG: 69832284

Julia was still living with her parents in 1915 in New York, but following her parents death, she relocated to Reno, Nevada moving in with her brother John.

Julia died in 1922 at the age of 51, following an operation at St. Mary's hospital for fibroid tumors.
