Donna Rae Adkins, 68, of Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Mrs. Adkins was born April 16, 1948 in Staunton, and was the daughter of the late Ray and Grace Chaplin. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Justice Y. Smith; and five siblings.

Donna was a seamstress for over 30 years at Genesco in Verona. She loved to go yard sailing, and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

On December 26, 1984, she married Ronald Leon Adkins who survives.

She is also survived by three daughters, Drema G. Smith, Sonja L. Chaplin and Kristen N. Flanary; two brothers, Scott Chaplin and Phillip Chaplin; three sisters, Sandy Randhawa, Iris Sprouse and Dixie Condit; four grandchildren, Stephanie N. Marshall, Tiffany M. Smith, C.J. Smith and Ahonesty J. McNair; seven great-grandchildren and her "like a sister" best friend, Brenda Shoemaker.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society , 420 Neff Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801. Condolences may be shared at www.kygers.com.
