Helen Charlton Allen died April 17, 2005. She was born on July 3, 1913 to the late William James and Mattie Fones Charlton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Allen; and her three sons, Clyde, Thomas and James (Pedro) Allen; and her daughter, Virginia Thomas. She is survived by her children, Junior Allen, Margaret Jennings, Vicky Anderson, Mattie Dixon, Arnetta Eubanks, Brenda Allen, Jean and son-in-law, Richard Temple, Dean and daughter-in-law, Barbara Allen and Gladys Grubb; two sisters, Virginia Spencer and Joyce Wright; also 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd., where services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Nelson County at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a favorite charity.
