Chase, Hannah R. Sperry, w. of Samuel T. Chase,
b. Mar. 14, 1819, d. Feb. 2, 1908

OBITUARY - Mrs. Henrietta (Sperry) R. Chase

Mrs. Henrietta R. Chase, one of the oldest residents of Schenevus, died Sunday afternoon after brief illness, aged 89 years. Mrs. Chase was born in Sperry Hollow, about three miles east of the village of Schenevus, her father being Elisha Sperry, one of a family of five brothers who came from New England in the early years of the 19th century and settled upon lands in the wilderness.

She was married in 1840 to Samuel T. Chase, their home from that time until 1862 being at Stockbridge, Madison county, and later in Albany. In the latter year, however, they returned to Schenevus, which thereafter was their home, Mr. Chase dying in 1896.

The funeral, which was private, was held Tuesday at 2 p.m., four grandsons, R.C. Mills of Oneonta, L.M. Wood of Cooperstown, S.T. Chase of Schenevus, and T.T. Chase of Des Moines, Iowa, acting as bearers.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jennie C. Mills, and by four sons, John, Rufus, Curry and Tyler Chase. The deceased was a highly esteemed woman, devoted to her family and unusually well informed, even in her later days, upon topics of current interest.
