Shirley was born and raised in Manson, Iowa. She married her first husband, Frank Anderson in 1950. She and Frank raised three children. Shirley worked as a legal secretary, a manager for her husband Frank's construction company, a co-owner and supervisor of a 28-bed nursing home, and an executive assistant for the Florida Child Protection Agency. After being widowed, she married her former sweetheart, Wesley Pulley, from Palmer, Iowa in 1985.
She will be remembered for her sense of humor and wit, for her appreciation of beauty in art and nature, for her generosity to social justice causes, for her love of animals, and for her unconditional love for all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Adelaide Chipman; her brother, Delmar Chipman; her sisters, Emily Hall and Marion Johnson; her niece, Sharon Dowell; her first husband, Frank Anderson; and her second husband, Wesley Pulley.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Clougherty, Frank Anderson, and Amy Anderson; her step-children Steve Pulley and Beth Petti; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Jady Chipman, Claudia Neumann, Tim Chipman, Larry Johnson, Conrad Johnson, Valorie Abel, and many other relatives by marriage.
The family is grateful for the many wonderful caregivers who provided loving care for Shirley during her three-year illness.
A memorial gathering is planned for the fall of this year in Manson, Iowa, with the date to be announced later. Memorial donations can be sent to HospiceCare Foundation, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
