Philipella "Ella" Claiborne was named for her father Philip Whitehead Claiborne who married Arnette S. Craig. She had five siblings: Wallace Craig Claiborne, Walter H. Claiborne, Robert Stanard Claiborne, William Dandridge Claiborne, and Georgianna Claiborne. The family lived in Franklin County, AL, Coosa County, AL, and it is believed they moved to the Florence area.

Philipella "Ella" Claiborne Bibb was married to Dr. Henry "Hal" Chambers Bibb. They had three children: Robert Chambers Bibb, Fannie Claiborne D. Bibb (died in 1888 at age 24), and Ella Claiborne Bibb Fariss. It is possible that she died in connection with the birth of another child, perhaps Henry C. Bibb. The Selma Times Argus of 20 June 1871 reports the death of an infant (see image) Henry C. Bibb "near Mooresville" on June 11th. Philipella Bibb lived at the Bibb Belle Mina mansion which is "near Mooresville" in Belle Mina.

NOTE: It is difficult to believe that, if the infant lived long enough to be given a name, especially if named for his father, the infant is not buried unmarked in the Bibb family cemetery behind the house where the infant was born. It is not known when the infant Henry C. Bibb was born, only that he died on June 11 1871, just weeks before his mother.
