Private graveside services for former McMinnville resident Virginia C. Beal were held on Saturday, March 19, in the Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Beal died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Milwaukie. She was 94.
Born Aug. 31, 1910, in Cambridge, Idaho, she was the daughter of Henry and May (Jackson) Clare. She spent her childhood in Cambridge and Midvale, Idaho. After graduating from Linfield College, she married Leon L. Beal in 1931.
Mrs. Beal taught elementary school for eight years in Carlton. She then taught in McMinnville until 1972. She lived in McMinnville until 1981, when she moved to Milwaukie.
She took pleasure in gardening and spending time in natural settings - in forests, perhaps, or along mountain streams. A geology lover, she collected unique rocks and stones, and incorporated many of them into her gardens. The family said she had a great love of learning.
Survivors include three daughters, Miriam Dunbar of San Francisco, Katherine Beal of Larchmont, N.Y., and Clare Bantsari of Gig Harbor, Wash., along with two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be sent to The American Heart Association of American Red Cross, care of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128. Condolences may be sent care of Macy & Son as well.
