POCATELLO — Debra Darlene Coil Clark passed away after a courageous 30-year battle with multiple sclerosis, surrounded by her loving family on April 23, 2002.

Debra was born to Frank W. and Mardella M. Coil on July 7, 1953, in the Fairbanks, Alaska, territory. The family resided in Spokane, Wash., and Firth, Idaho, before settling in Sunnyvale, Calif. Through her school years Debra developed a lifelong love of math and science, and was named California's science student of the year. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1971.

She married Steven L. "Sam" Clark in the Oakland, California LDS Temple on December 18, 1971. Their daughter, Kimberly, was born in 1973. The family moved to Idaho in 1974. A son, Adam, was born to the family in 1975, followed by Samantha in 1978. Samantha passed away shortly after birth. Bonnie was born in 1980, and Marti in 1982. Patricia joined the family in 1987.

Debra was active in community service and faithful in her church callings. She served as a Primary teacher, nursery leader, camp director, den mother, Relief Society teacher and president. She was active in the PTA, and served as a president for six years. She was a licensed foster care provider for nine years. Debra served on the Pocatello school board from 1990 to 1994, and served as vice chairperson for part of that time. She was a founding member of Pocatello Neighborhood Housing Services. She served on the PNHS board of directors from 1993 to 1996, and as the PNHS board president in 1995-96.

She also served as a member of the Fair Housing Coalition from 1996 to 1998. Debra served as the treasurer for the Sister Cities program. She also volunteered many hours as a math tutor. Debra was recently awarded the National Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership, as a tribute to her significant contributions in neighborhood revitalization.
