Constance Fay Purcell was born in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of Rosa and Marsh Purcell. On June 8, 1946, Constance and John Reber Daly were married in Galveston. That marriage ended. Connie Fay Daly and Michael Walter Clayton were united in marriage on May 19, 1956, in Galveston. They were the parents of two children.


On February 17, 2002, Constance "Connie" Fay Purcell Clayton entered into eternal rest at her home in Brenham after a brief illness. She retired from Clear Lake ISD, and in 1989 as secretary of Webster Primary School. Connie was proud of her Texas heritage, having been the great-granddaughter of Andrew Robinson, one of the original 300 arriving in Texas in 1821, and settling on his land which is now Washington-on-the Brazos. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Purcell Family Association.


Preceded in death by her parents, she was survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael Clayton; a daughter and son-in-law and two loving granddaughters; a son and daughter-in-law; her sister, Mabel Anna Lussier of San Leon; an aunt and uncle, Bea and Jim Purcell, of Pearland and a cousin, Elaine. Other family members include siblings and their spouses, Maurine & Wayne, Marguerita & Dick and Debra. She also was blessed with many devoted nieces and nephews and loving friends.


Baptized Presbyterian, she attended Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. Connie will be remembered by her family as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, a devoted wife and by her many friends, personable, kind and loyal.
