She was born into a theatrical family, where her father was an actor in theatre productions and used the stage name Clayton. Ruth followed in his footsteps and started working directly out of Wadleigh High School in the theatre arts in Midtown Manhattan in New York. She used the theatre name Ruth Clayton and became a popular singer also singing at the Mayfair Hotel in 1940. She changed her singing name to Ruth Bartlett in 1952. She met Howard Raymond Born (1914-1990) in Washington DC while singing. They married in 1955 and were together for thirty five years until Howard's death in 1990. Ruth was active in many community service activities lecturing at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, working in the Republican Party, and doing many wonderful things for animals, one of her greatest joys. She worked at the Citizens For Animal Protection for many years and brought dogs to hospitals for the patients to enjoy. She raised her own dogs and brought joy to many people. She was a vivacious, loving, and kind person that many will miss greatly.
