Died at a Portland hospital. Son of Charles and Elizabeth (Raitz) Cole. He moved to Portland at a young age, attending schools in North Portland and graduating from Jefferson High School in 1932. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and worked in the wholesale candy business. He enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and served during WWII, where he was injured. He returned to Portland and started Arthur Cole Candy, which is still being operated by the family. He married Lorraine Harvey in September 1948 in Sherwood, where they made their home and lived for 42 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and local casinos. His family said he was a devoted father and grandfather and a great storyteller. Survivors include: sons, Walter of Portland and Jim of Sherwood; daughter Elizabeth Karleskint of Portland; grandchildren, Robert Cole, Patricia Miller, Wendy Baughman and Steven Cole; eight great-grandchildren and a nephew. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille and Corrine.
