Cole, Alan Lee 74 05/01/1936 12/19/2010 Alan was born in Portland to Elbert and Rose Reihl Cole. He graduated from Washington High School in 1954, and joined the U.S. Army National Guard. Alan was with Oregon's 41st Infantry Division for 16 years, and was honorably discharged as a captain in 1968. Alan was the owner and president of Premier Gear and Machine Works. He was chairman of the Oregon Economic Development Commission; the U.S. International Trade Committee; and the Governor's Small Business Advisory Council. He was on the board of trustees of the World Affairs Council; the Oregon representative of the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission; the president of the Latin America Chamber of Commerce of Oregon; and held memberships in numerous business and trade organizations. As chairman of the Chkalov Transpolar Flight Committee, he was the first American to receive the Order of Friendship from the Russian Federation in 1995. He married Sandra Bowers, the love of his life, in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Sandi; brother, Clay McCarthy; sons, Russell and David Cole; daughters, Karen Fox and Janet Davis; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and former wife, Maxine Cole-DeBus. A memorial service will be at noon Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in Keizer Community Church. A lunch will follow the service. Donations may be made to Keizer Community Church or Legacy Hospice-McMinnville.
