Mrs. Avant, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late John Coleman of St. Mary Parish, Louisiana and the former Edna Desormeaux of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Dorothy was the founder of the KIT Club. She loved cooking, baking and sewing. She spent her life helping people.
She is survived by one son, Wayne J. Avant, Jr. of Lafayette; three sisters; three brothers; and Leah and Hannah Authement who called her "Maw Maw".
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne J. Avant, Sr., two brothers and five sisters.
