Mary Louise (Coll) Chambers, passed away at home, at the age of 89, April 5, 2008, in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Connellesville, Pa., to Mary Louise and Dr. Hugh Coll, MD.

She was a dedicated and caring mother of eight living children, loving and devoted wife to Ralph Harry Chambers (now deceased-as three other infant sons, Thomas Coll Chambers, Adrian Matthew Chambers and Vincent Paul Chambers).

She graduated from Seton Hill College for Women in Greensburg, Pa., and was honored to represent her alma mater at ceremonies at Santa Clara University. She also attended University of Pittsburgh Graduate School in the nursing program.

She was committed in her work and her life to helping those less fortunate. With over 25 years of service in social work, she moved up the ladder to become supervisor for the Santa Clara County Social Services in San Jose and marched with Cesar Chavez for the rights of union members. In Las Vegas, she volunteered, set up and ran the food bank for AFAN (Aid For Aids of Nevada) and was a counselor buddy for many of their clients from 1982 thru 1988. She also volunteered at the Clark County Psychiatric Clinic.

She was a member of St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church, taught Catechism and was a lecturer for the Sunday masses. At 66, she enrolled at UNLV, pursuing her masters degree in psychology.

She is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Bobby Brebeck of Santa Clara, Paula Ketron of Las Vegas, Linda (Hugh) Taylor of Santa Clara, Ralph (Carla) Chambers Jr. of Santa Clara, Christopher Chambers of Morgan Hill, Stephanie Chambers of Sunnyvale, John Peter Chambers of Santa Clara and Michael Chambers and Greg Shay of Las Vegas; 20 grandchildren, Cyndi Buckingham of Texas, Christine and Robert Brooks of El Dorado Hills, Catherine Rikli of Carmichael, Colleen Rikli of Campbell, Cherise and Robert Mantia of Gilroy and Katrina Brebeck of Santa Clara, James and Liz Ketron of Las Vegas, Sean and Lisa Taylor, Amy Scholenhorse of LA, Heather Chambers of Santa Clara, Crystal Chambers of Chico, Tony Silva of San Jose, Jacob Chambers of Texas, Sirena Chambers of San Jose, Arron Chambers of Santa Maria; and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial service 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, St. Justin's Church, and interment will be at Catholic Cemetery both in Santa Clara.
