During Christmas break from Southern University she journeyed to California to visit relatives where she met William Bailey after which they were united in holy matrimony in San Francisco, California. The service was performed by A.J. White of Saint James Baptist Church in San Francisco, CA. From this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.
Mabel Bailey fellowshipped with Community Baptist Church presided by Pastor William Turner, where she joined the Choir and Sunday School. She later moved her membership to Third Baptist Church, where she became a member of the following church organizations: The Inspirational Chorus, B.T.U., The Senior Center, Missionary Union, Art and Culture Circle where she served as Mission and Services Chair. As a member of Sunday School Class #9 she served as Birthday Chair and was Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She later worked with the Prison Ministry and was a Life Member of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women.
She was employed by U.C.S.F. Hospital for 23 years as a License Vocational Nurse in the General Clinical Research Unit. Mabel admitted and worked with the 1st Kidney Transplant patient on the unit.
Mabel was preceded in death by her mother: Susie Kelley-Nelson; father: Willie Collins and Step-Father: Frank Nelson. All aunts, uncles and most cousins.
Mabel leaves to celebrate her homecoming: her devoted husband: William Bailey; two sons: Jeffrey William Bailey and Rickey Earl Bailey; daughter: Kimberly Leontine Bailey-Stafford and son-in-law: Don Patrick Stafford; grandchildren: Tamiko Hayes Bailey, Richard Bailey, Stephanie Ford-Smith, and William Stafford; great granddaughter: Jordynn Ava Ford-Smith; Lucille Sanders and family and a host of many other relatives, dear friends and her church family.
