BARONE, Katherine "Kay" Passed away on March 6, 2010 in Hingham, MA. Daughter of the late Reverend Gilbert and Katrina Condit; sister of the late Reverend George Condit; beloved wife of Henry Barone. Loving Mother to the late Kenneth Barone of Hull, Faith Peterson of Swampscott, and Gilbert Barone of Pocasset; Mother-in-law to Candace Barone, Linda Barone and James Peterson. Grandmother to Tamra Masterson, Hannah Peterson and Daniel Peterson; Great Grandmother to Aeryn Masterson and Alex Taddei. Aunt to J.Gilbert and Linda Condit and their three children; and Jane and David Rice. Kay was born in 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Jersey State Teachers College in 1940. Her first teaching job was the third grade in Somerville, New Jersey, where she met her husband, Henry. They were married in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1943, where Henry was stationed as an Air Force instructor. After the war she raised her three children in New England, returning to teaching at the private Little Folk Farm in Framingham after her youngest was ready for school. She returned to public school in Sherborn, and eventually taught at the Edward Devotion School in Brookline until her retirement in 1985. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Wheelock College while teaching at Devotion. Kay was renowned as a reading teacher, and in her first grade classroom many Brookline children read their first books, and also learned math through the use of Cuisenaire rods. Kay found excitement and beauty all around her. She found particular joy in great conversation and spending time at Nantasket Beach. She was an avid reader and poetry writer, with membership in many metro-west and Boston reading and poetry groups. She had a love of art, and believed that children should have a chance to have beautiful art in their lives. She combined her love of poetry and fine art by writing books for the children of her family and many friends. In 1995 she realized her dream of being published when the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston published her children's book By Waters Edge of Winslow Homer Seascapes and poems. Funeral services will be private at Hull Village Cemetery, Hull, MA. A Celebration of Kay's life will be held at the Wellesley College Club, 727 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA on Sunday, April 25, 2010, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay's memory to Mount Ida College, the Ken Barone Fund, 777 Dedham St., Newton MA 02459.
